Bring Your Parents
Home to Australia.
Reuniting with your parents is one of the most emotionally significant visa journeys you will ever make. With waiting times spanning years, planning early — and planning correctly — makes all the difference. We guide families through every parent visa pathway with honesty, expertise, and care.
Parent Visa Pathways Explained
There are multiple parent visa subclasses — each with different costs, timelines, and eligibility requirements. Choosing the right pathway depends on your family's circumstances and priorities.
Sponsored Parent Visa
The original parent visa — no large fees, but currently has a waiting time of 30+ years. Parents receive temporary visa while waiting.
- Low upfront cost
- Queue: 30+ years currently
- Requires an eligible sponsor
- Balance of family test required
Contributory Parent Visa
Permanent residency via a significantly higher government fee, but much faster than the 103. Currently 5–10 year processing.
- Government fees: ~AUD 48,000
- Processing: 5–10 years
- Faster than 103 due to fees
- Permanent from day of grant
Contributory Parent (Temp)
A temporary visa granted while you wait for the permanent 143. Allows parents to live, work, and study in Australia.
- Temporary — valid 2 years
- Step towards permanent 143
- Work and Medicare rights
- Can travel in and out
Contributory Aged Parent
For parents who are "aged" (close to or past pension age) and already in Australia on a valid visa at time of application.
- Must be in Australia to apply
- Aged parent qualification required
- Temporary visa — leads to 864
- Usually faster processing
Aged Parent Visa
For parents who meet the "aged" criteria and are in Australia. The non-contributory version with a much longer waiting period.
- In Australia at time of application
- Very long queue
- Lower upfront costs
- Balance of family test required
What You Need to Qualify
All parent visas share common eligibility requirements — plus stream-specific requirements that vary by subclass.
Balance of Family Test
More of your children must live permanently in Australia than in any other single country. We assess this before you apply.
Eligible Sponsor
An Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible NZ citizen child or step-child must sponsor the parent visa application.
Assurance of Support
The sponsor provides a financial assurance to the government covering potential social security costs. We guide you through this.
Health & Character
Parents must undergo health examinations and provide police clearances from all countries of residence in the past 10 years.
Government Fees
Parent visa fees vary significantly by subclass — from ~AUD 4,350 for 103 to ~AUD 48,000+ for 143. We provide a full cost breakdown.
